The Punjab Chemists Association (PCA) has opposed the proposed new drug policy of the state government. Surinder Duggal, president, Punjab Chemists Association, presided over the meeting in the Fazilka district.

Duggal alleged that stringent clauses have been added in the amended drug policy. He said biometric attendance of qualified persons has been made mandatory in the new policy, which was not feasible at all.

He also condemned a proposal of not granting wholesale and retail drug licences to the pharmacists for the next five years.

He said the policy proposes that drug authorities would not allow shifting of the wholesale or retail shops which was uncalled for.

Duggal added that if a retailer or wholesaler would be booked under the NDPS Act the authorities concerned would not grant licence to any of his family member or relative.

He said they would hold a meeting with Health Minister and Principal Secretary, among others within a few days.
