Barnala, November 14

The Crime Investigations Agency (CIA) has arrested four members of a gang and seized four pistols with live cartridges. Raids are being conducted to arrest their accomplices, who escaped under the cover of darkness.

Barnala SSP Harjeet Singh said last evening, CIA incharge Baljit Singh got a tip-off that some criminals, facing various cases, were roaming in the Pakhon Kalan area and were planning to commit a robbery.

“The CIA team laid a naka near Pakhon Kalan. When they tried to stop a car, its occupants opened fire on the police. The latter retaliated. The accused stopped their car at a distance where three youngsters ran towards fields, while two fled in the car,” said the SSP.

The CIA team nabbed two persons from the fields, while the car occupants were also nabbed after a short chase.

“Those arrested are Lavjit Singh, Amarveer Singh, Parvinder Singh and Manish Parbhakar. Our team has seized four pistols and 11 live cartridges,” he said.

CIA incharge Baljit said the accused were facing several criminal cases registered at different police stations. “Lavjeet is facing five cases. He was also involved in a gang war in 2018 at Goindwal, where four persons were killed. Manish, who returned from the US in 2015, is also facing seven FIRs registered at different police stations,” he said.

“The criminals had fired 10 rounds on the police. The absconding accused had been identified as Johny and raids were being conducted to arrest him,” he said.
