Miffed at overflowing sehaj safai kendras (SSKs) and the waste processing plant at Dadu Majra not working properly, MC councillors today demanded that the corporation should take over the plant.

Referring to an ongoing case against the JP plant in the National Green Tribunal (NGT), MC Commissioner KK Yadav advised the public representatives to wait for the next hearing on November 29. Later, he, along with councillors, agreed to have their own panel of advocates to represent their case ‘better’ in the tribunal rather than sticking to the panel prescribed by the UT Administration.

Congress councillor Satish Kainth said garbage was strewn at different places and SSKs were overflowing with waste. “We want a final solution to this garbage mess. Why the issue is not being resolved?” he asked the Commissioner and Mayor Rajesh Kalia. He termed it as Kalia’s failure.

BJP councillor and former Mayor Arun Sood suggested that they have given more than enough time to the JP plant, but it did not start processing the waste properly. “Commissioner sahab, we are with you; show the courage to take over the plant,” he added. Other councillors said ‘yes’ in unison.

Yadav apprised the House that the NGT had asked the civic body to provide it segregated waste, in which the corporation had lacked. On this, BJP councillor and former Mayor Davesh Moudgil reminded him that at the time of the signing of the MoU between the JP and the corporation, it was agreed that non-segregated waste would be given by the MC and the plant would have to process it and derive RDF. There was no clause of segregation, he added.

The Commissioner replied that the NGT had ordered so. Later, it was decided to have own panel of advocates to represent the MC better in the tribunal.

Under a Smart City project, the work on biomining about 5 lakh MT waste at the dumping ground was recently given to an agency. The work is expected to start in mid-December. Councillor Sood said, “It will not be of any use until we fix the issue with the plant as waste will reach the dumping ground again.”

Wait till next NGT hearing: commissioner

MC Commissioner KK Yadav advised the public representatives to wait for the next hearing on November 29 when the NGT will take up the case pertaining to the JP plant. Later, he, along with councillors, agreed to have their own panel of advocates to represent their case ‘better’ in the tribunal rather than sticking to the panel prescribed by the UT Administration.
