Man dupes cops of Rs 50,000, held

BATHINDA: The city police have booked a person for duping two police personnel of Rs50,000 on the pretext of assisting them in an ongoing departmental inquiry against them.

The city police have booked a person for duping two police personnel of Rs50,000 on the pretext of assisting them in an ongoing departmental inquiry against them. After initial investigations, the police have registered a case and arrested one person in the matter.

The accused has been identified as Babbu from Rampura area. In his complaint, Dilbagh Singh stated that there was a department inquiry pending against him and one of his colleague, Rup Singh. He stated that Babbu told them that he would assist them in a favourable manner in the inquiry. He then duped them by taking Rs50,000 from them.

DSP (City-2) Aaswant Singh said: “We have arrested Babbu in the case. There was a departmental inquiry pending against two police personnel with the IGP, Bathinda. In the initial investigations, it has come to the fore that Babbu promised them that he would assist in the pending inquiry. Later, he started blackmailing them and even extorted Rs50,000 from them.”

A case under Section 420 and 506 of the IPC and under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused.
