Annual day function at Jesus & Mary

Convent of Jesus & Mary organised its annual day on the theme “Reliving the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi”. The chief guest was Governor Bandaru Dattatreya.

Convent of Jesus & Mary organised its annual day on the theme “Reliving the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi”. The chief guest was Governor Bandaru Dattatreya. The spectacular programme started with the traditional welcome of the chief guest and the parents, followed by lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Principal Sister Shyma and Sisters of the community were also present on the occasion. A prayer dance was performed, followed by a soulful welcome song. Students of Convent of Jesus and Mary showcased their karate skills.  Achievements and activities of the school were highlighted through the annual report. Gandhi’s spirit was invoked to sort out the present day issues of regionalism and chauvinism through wonderful performances by various classes. Suresh Kumar, conductor of the schoolbus that met with an accident, was given a relief of Rs 60,000 and the wife of late Naresh Kumar, driver of the bus, was also given two fixed deposits worth 1.5 lakh each in the name of their children.

Teachers, students felicitated 

The 31st annual day of Akal Academy, Baru Sahib, was celebrated with much fanfare. Air Marshal (retd) PS Bhangu was the chief guest. The programme was dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Dr Davinder Singh, secretary, Kalgidhar Trust, shared the journey of Kalgidhar Trust in the field of education since 1987. Principals, teachers and students of Akal Academy, Baru Sahib and other Akal Academies  were felicitated. Dr Neelam Kaur, adviser, Education and Health, Kalgidhar Trust, said the performance of students in the board exams was laudable. Children gave various performances.

State-level cultural programme

The 62nd state-level U-19 boys and girls cultural programme commenced at Government (Boys) Senior Secondary School, Jubbal, on Wednesday. Chopal MLA Balbir Verma was the chief guest on the occasion. Teams from all 12 districts will present cultural dances, solo songs, one-act plays and various other activities during the five-day event. Principal of the school Pitamber said all arrangements were in place.
