A mysterious incident of firing shots at the house of a hosiery trader in Sunder Nagar late last night caused panic in the area. Police officials visited the house to inspect the bullet marks during the day and also recovered 17 bullet cases from the spot.

The hosiery trader, Amit Kumar, said he heard some noise around the midnight and thought that it was from firecrackers. “However, when I got up and looked out, I saw some youths firing shots towards my house,” he said, adding that due to darkness, he could not see those firing shots or the kind of weapon they were using.

According to ADCP-I Gurpreet Singh Sikand, the police had recovered 17 bullet shells fired from a 9 mm caliber weapon. A case had been registered against unidentified persons under section 307 of the IPC.

While the hosiery trader said he had no clue about the motive of firing as he had no dispute of any kind with anybody, Sikand said the police were investigating the case thoroughly from all angles.
