Chandigarh, October 29

The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has decided to hire private architect to design the government housing project at Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Information Technology Park (IT Park).

Sources said the CHB today issued a tender to invite bids from architectural firms. The selection will be done through a design competition. A high-level committee comprising officers and architects from the CHB and the Administration will evaluate the design and select the architect to design the flats under the project.

This is for the first time that the CHB is constructing flats for government officers and employees. The flats are to be constructed by the Chandigarh Housing Board on 6.75 acre. The architect consultant will prepare the layout plan and the number of towers.

The CHB is planning to construct high-end residential flats for the Haryana and Punjab governments and the UT. The CHB offered flats to both the Haryana and Punjab governments.

The Haryana government has already conveyed its willingness to buy flats each costing Rs 1.78 crore. The CHB is coming up with the project on the land it got from Parsvnath Developers after a long legal battle. The land at the IT Park was given to Parsvnath developers in 2005 for Rs 821 crore to construct residential flats, but the project failed to take off due to a controversy over the boundary between Chandigarh and Panchkula. Later, the CHB took over the land.

Sources said the Chandigarh Administration would also buy flats for its officers.
