VB arrests JE for taking Rs20K bribe

The State Vigilance Bureau today claimed to have nabbed a Junior Engineer (JE) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited red- handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said Paviter Singh, JE, posted at the PSPCL sub-division Beeja, Ludhiana district, was arrested red-handed on the complaint of Paramjeet Singh, a resident of Guru Harkrishan Nagar, Malerkotla.

The complainant had approached the Vigilance Bureau, alleging that the JE was demanding Rs 50,000 for installation of his electricity meter but the deal was struck at Rs 40,000.

After verifying his information, a Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused JE was arrested on the spot while accepting Rs 20,000 as a first instalment from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

He said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act had been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Ludhiana and further investigation was under progress.
