It was a day of allegations and counter allegations which were made by political leaders contesting the Phagwara Assembly byelections and others.

Anita Som Parkash, wife of Union Minister of State Som Parkash, along with hundreds of activists belonging to the BJP Mahila Morcha, sat on a dharna before the office of the Superintendent of the Police, Phagwara, Manwinder Singh, in protest against police inaction against former BJP councillor Gurdeep Deepa, who recently joined the Congress. The latter allegedly used abusive language and derogatory remarks against Som Parkash and his wife during a cultural event organised by the Congress in local Onkar Nagar three days ago.

Anita alleged that the police failed to register a case against Deepa in the matter. Later, the dharna was lifted after an assurance of early action was given by SP Manwinder Singh who reached the spot.

Party posters, flex boards removed: LIP, BSP

Meanwhile, Lok Insaaf Party candidate Jarnail Nangal today alleged that employees on the instructions of the government removed and torn around 1,000 posters and flex boards of LIP in several parts of the assembly constituency. He said a written complaint has been submitted to the authorities concerned in this regard. Bahujan Samaj Party Punjab president Jasbir Singh Garrhi and BSP candidate Bhagwan Dass also alleged that hundreds of posters and flex boards of BSP candidate were found torn and removed from various of places only to show the “Congress wave” to the CM during his roadshow here today.

BJP, AAP leaders making false allegations: Arora

However, Punjab Industry Minister Sunder Sham Arora said BJP, BSP and AAP leaders were levelling false and manipulated allegations in frustration. Arora said they were now reading the writing on the wall.
