Firing leaves one injured, eight booked

A firing incident in the Cantonment area left one person injured here late last evening. The police have booked around eight persons in this connection while no arrest has been made till now. A monetary dispute is stated to be the cause behind the firing.

The victim was identified as Varinder Singh, a resident of Putlighar area. He told the police that at around 10.45 pm he had gone to pick up his friend Shivam. Varinder said when he reached the Cantonment area, he found that some unknown persons had surrounded Shivam. He said he intervened and tried to pacify them. However, one of them pushed him and opened fire with his revolver.

The bullet hit his back and he fell on the ground. He said while the accused fled the scene, he was immediately rushed to a private hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. 

Among those booked for attempt to murder were identified as Tali, Nand Kishore, Neeraj and their five unidentified accomplices. The police have registered a case under Sections 307, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act against them. 

The police said the accused were on the run and no arrest had been made so far. They said raids were on to nab them.
