Curbs reimposed in some parts

The authorities in Kashmir reimposed restrictions on Friday in some parts of Srinagar amid fears that protests may break out after Friday prayers.

The restrictions were reimposed in the sensitive Anchar area and around the historical Jamia Masjid in old city in view of apprehensions of post-Friday prayers demonstrations. Due to the restrictions, prayers could not be held for 11th consecutive Friday at the Jamia mosque.

Officials said security forces were deployed on ground in sensitive and vulnerable areas in Srinagar and other areas in Kashmir to maintain calm. There were reports of a few violent incidents in some parts of the city. Many cars were damaged in stone-throwing, a police officer said.

Meanwhile, normal life continues to remain affected across the Valley for the 75th consecutive day on Friday.

Shops are opening for a few hours early in the morning, including in the commercial hub of Lal Chowk in the city, but public transport continues to remain off the roads. Train services across Kashmir also remained suspended since August 5.
