Students sensitise farmers
Chandigarh: A large number of school students from rural areas across the state today became the ‘ambassadors of anti-stubble burning campaign’ of the Punjab Government by sensitising farmers to the need of conserving the environment by not burning the paddy straw. Lakhs of children participated in the anti-stubble burning rallies organised in their respective villages to disseminate the message of clean, green and pollution-free Punjab. The move was a part of Capt Amarinder Singh-led state government’s historic initiative to minimise the incidence of paddy straw burning in the state. The students, carrying placards and banners with messages on the harmful effects of paddy straw burning, raised slogans against pollution. TNS
Patwaris call off stir
Chandigarh: Patwaris of Punjab, under the aegis of the Revenue Patwar Union, today called off their agitation scheduled to be held at Dakha tomorrow, after the state government agreed to meet their demands. A meeting between the representatives of the union and state Revenue Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar was held this evening, wherein the latter assured that he would initiate the process of recruiting 1,335 patwaris and 190 kanungos. The proposal to recruit these revenue officials would be brought up at the next Cabinet meeting scheduled for October 23, confirmed Kangar. TNS
