Ludhiana: The department of political science, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, organised a workshop on ‘Know your rights’ by Avni Bhatia, campaign manager at Josh Talks, Ab Samjhauta Nahin campaign with ITC Vivel. She discussed about basic fundamental rights and the need to know one’s rights, concept of gender equality, equality at work and home, legal rights and framework for sexual harassment, cyber safety, cyber stalking and laws related to these issues. Around 400 students participated in the workshop. Principal Mukti Gill thanked Bhatia for delivering an informative lecture to students.

Faculty development programme

Shree Atam Vallabh Jain College organised a faculty development programme by Shashi Kapoor, Assistant Professor, University Business School, Panjab University Regional Centre. He provided teachers the knowledge of statistical analytical techniques using interactive activities and animation. He told teachers how they could utilise those techniques in writing research papers to enhance their knowledge.

Dr Kalam remembered

The centre for value education of Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women celebrated the 88th birth anniversary of the Missile Man and 11th president of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. To mark this day, a seminar on the meditation, self focus and soul searching was conducted by the centre. Brahmakumaris were keynote speakers for the day. They involved students and staff in various activities and taught them how they could connect themselves to their inner core and attain peace of mind.

BCM College shines in BEd results

Students of BCM College of Education have brought laurels to the college by performing excellently in BEd Semester-II examinations, results of which were declared by Panjab University, Chandigarh. Mohneet Kaurmade has secured fifth position in the university with a score of 88.67 per cent, followed by Shaina with 88 per cent and eighth spot in the merit list. As many as 61 students in the college have scored more than 80 per cent. The managing committee of the college congratulated the faculty and students for their hard work and wished them success in their future endeavours.

Assistant professor honoured

Empowerment Association for the Blinds, Punjab, honoured Sukhwinder Cheema, Assistant Professor at Malwa Central College of Education for Women, for his contributions and support to the association for the welfare of the blinds on White Cane Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Richard Hoover, who designed the White Cane which revolutionised the lives of blinds by providing safety, identity and ease in movability for the person suffering from vision impairment. The celebration was arranged in the office of the association at Gobind Nagar, Chandigarh Road. Every year, the association honours a distinguish personality who has contribution for the welfare of the blinds.

100 saplings distributed 

The NSS volunteers of Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, in collaboration with the Model Town police station, organised a plantation drive to mark Vanamahotsava celebrations. Principal Charanjit Mahal inaugurated the campaign by planting saplings on the campus. She called for more vigorous efforts to combat the threat of global warming and climate change by way of tree planting programme with active participation of students. She encouraged the volunteers to plant more trees and take care of their plantations. As many as 100 saplings were distributed to students and faculty of the college. 

Book on life of Guru Nanak released

On the occasion of Sangrand of the month of Katak, Ramgarhia Educational Council organised a book release function at Ramgarhia gurdwara. The book, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jiwan ate Sikhiyawa, written by Prof Acharu Singh and Dharminder Singh Ubbha, depicts the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev. The book was released at Gurdwara Ramgarhia in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib. The book will be distributed to all members of the management on the occasion of the Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev. Ranjodh Singh asserted that the book would prove out to be very useful to teach modern generation the great and valuable teachings of the first Sikh Guru. Gurcharan Singh Lotey said it was the high time for people of Punjab to learn and implement the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev. Principal Inderjit Kaur, former principal Harmeet Kaur and principals of various Ramgarhia institutions were also present on the occasion. TNS

Fresher’s party for pharmacy Pupils 

Khanna: Desh Bhagat University organised a fresher’s party for newly admitted students of pharmacy. The event was inaugurated by the university pro-chancellor, Tajinder Kaur. She congratulated students for joining this noble profession and encouraged them to serve the mankind with honesty and empathy. Chancellor Zora Singh and Vice-Chancellor Virinder Singh wished the students luck and motivated them to work hard and remain honest to their duties. Principal BD Dhiman welcomed the faculty members and students of pharmacy department.  Seniors presented a colourful cultural programme consisting of songs, dances and skits. Fun-filled games and a modelling competition was also arranged.  Gurkaran Singh won the Mr Fresher title while Bhagya was declared Ms Fresher. OC
