Solan, October 17

The vigilance and anti-corruption bureau has recovered five of the 11 vehicles bought on loan in the name of gullible people but later sold by the members of an inter-state gang.

The vehicles recovered include one Swift, two Brezza and one Baleno from Patiala, Ferozepur and Kalka following the arrest of three persons — Amit Kumar of Kalka, Pradeep Brar of Mohali and Vimal Kalra of Patiala — earlier this month, confirmed the bureau’s Additional Director General of Police Anurag Garg.

The bureau had registered a case against an inter-state gang who after identifying gullible people used to coax them to purchase vehicles on bank loans with a promise that their vehicle would be hired by a company. With this, they assured them not only a fixed monthly rental income, but also ability to repay their bank instalments. Investigation conducted by the officials revealed that one of the gang members contacted one Sube Singh in Solan, a property dealer, with a proposal to finance vehicles and put them on hire.

Singh convinced locals about the profitabilityand made them buy cars on bank loans.

Once the vehicle was picked up from a showroom, it used to be taken away to Haryana and Punjab for sale with forged documents. The accused were booked for cheating in other states as well. “Investigation is on and the rest of the accused are likely to be arrested soon,” Garg added.
