Man roughs up cops, arrested

CHANDIGARH: A Sector 18 resident has been arrested for allegedly misbehaving with an inspector and assaulting a head constable on the intervening night of October 14 and 15.

A Sector 18 resident has been arrested for allegedly misbehaving with an inspector and assaulting a head constable on the intervening night of October 14 and 15.

According to the police, the complainant, Inspector Parveen Kumar, reported that he was on night duty and was briefing the PCR and Cheetah staff in the Sector 18 market around 1 am when a person arrived there and claimed that someone had stolen petrol from his motorcycle.

The cop said in the meantime, another person, who was later identified as Ajay Kumar, arrived at the spot and started abusing him.

The police claimed that Ajay was in an inebriated condition and starting manhandling Inspector Parveen. Head Constable Vijay Kumar, who was present at the spot, tried to intervene, but the suspect allegedly caught him by his uniform and punched him on the chest. The suspect was taken to the Sector 19 police station where a case was registered against him and he was arrested. — TNS
