Nurpur, October 15
Families affected by the proposed Pathankot-Mandi fourlaning today voiced anger over the uncertainty of the project outside the mini-secretariat.
Led by Rajesh Pathania, president of the newly formed Fourlane Lok Body, the protesters submitted a memorandum, seeking clarity on the project within 14 days. They threatened to go on hunger strike from October 29 if the government failed to clear its stand.
Pathania said as many as 2,500 families, living on the Kandwal-Seuni section in Nurpur, had been spending sleepless night ever since the Government of India had put on hold the much-publicised project. Demanding that the work be started at the earliest, he said the affected families had already shifted their establishments and now the government was unsure about the project. Union minister Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation stone of the project in Kangra in 2017. Now, the affected families are in a fix over the acquisition of their land. — OC
