Man held with illegal crackers

Kharar: The Kurali Sadar police seized a canter loaded with firecrackers and have arrested its driver. ASI Talwinder Singh had a tip-off about a huge quantity of crackers having been loaded on a canter (PB13-BF-3924) at a godown in Kurali and were being taken to Sangrur.

The canter driver did not have the licence to transport crackers. The police impounded the cracker-laden canter and arrested its driver, Satgur. A case has been registered. OC

Man arrested for smuggling drugs

Ambala: The district police have arrested Manpreet Singh of Saha near here for smuggling narcotic drugs, officials said here on Saturday. According to the police, a local woman was held with 30,000 intoxicant tablets from Manpreet’s house on July 22. During custodial interrogation, the woman revealed that Manpreet used to supply contraband to her. The suspect was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a local court, the officials said. TNS

Patient needs financial help

Chandigarh: Naima (60) has been diagnosed with a blockage in heart and is undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital, Panchkula, since September 24. Her son Alamgeer (33), a resident of Vikas Nagar, Chandigarh, said doctors had told them that angioplasty procedure was required for the treatment. Alamgeer, a barber by profession, said he was the sole bread earner of the family. With his meagre income, he could not afford the cost of treatment. Ritvik, Gursimran shine with bat 

Chandigarh: A half-century each by Ritvik Sood (51 not out) and Gursimran Singh (50 not out) helped St Joseph's Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, beat Eicher School, Parwanoo, by eight wickets in a St Joseph's Super League Cricket Tournament match here on Saturday. Batting first, Eicher School scored 121/6 in 25 overs. In reply, St Joseph's School scampered home in 15.3 overs. TNS
