The police have arrested Sultan Ahmed of Yamunanagar for abducting a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Public Health Department last month, officials said here today.

Two women and their three accomplices had already been arrested in the case for running a honey trap racket to target government officials, rich and gullible persons by luring them to establish physical relations, the police said.

Jaffar Iqbal Khan, a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Public Health Department posted in Naraingarh, was abducted in September and. He was later recovered from a village in Yamunanagar the next day after the police tracked down his location. However, the abductors gave the police the slip.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the women lured the victim to establish physical relations and demanded a ransom of Rs 3 lakh after taking him into illegal confinement.

According to the police, the suspects had been running the honey trap racket for the past some time and had targeted several other influential persons.

“They used to lure their targets by establishing physical relations and later extorted money from them by threatening to implicate them in false cases of rape,” the officials revealed. The suspect was produced before a local court, which remanded him to one-day police custody.

The police have put him under sustained interrogation to ascertain who else were involved in the racket and who all had been blackmailed by them in the past.
