New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday appointed former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, but divested him of his role as a Congress Working Committee member. In an order, Sonia also named senior former minister SR Patil Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, thereby giving dual charges in the state. LoP in the state Assembly is a cabinet rank post. The decision comes ahead of the Assembly session starting on Thursday until October 12. TNS
‘Rahul shouldn’t have quit’
New Delhi: Former Union minister Salman Khurshid on Wednesday said Rahul Gandhi should not have walked away from the party presidency as everyone wanted him to continue. He said the biggest problem of the party was that Rahul, the leader, had distanced himself from the entire process when he should have continued to lead. Khurshid said he would not leave the Congress, but he was concerned about the fact that the Congress did not go through the mandatory introspection process it should have after losing the LS polls. Trivedi elected unopposed to RS
Lucknow: BJP candidate Sudhanshu Trivedi was on Wednesday elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. He has been elected to the Rajya Sabha on the seat which fell vacant following the death of BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley. PTI
