Rohtak teenager Shafali Verma, who has been picked up in India’s T20 squad, would be the cynosure of all eyes when the Board President’s XI take on the South African women in their warm-up match here tomorrow. The 15-year-old Shafali was named in the Indian women’s team for the T20 series against South Africa following her good performance in the Women’s T20 challenge earlier and at the age-group level this year. The diminutive Haryana girl would like to make optimum use of the warm-up game and get runs under her belt if she is given an opportunity in the playing XI. The first warm-up game will be held tomorrow here, followed by the second match on Sunday.

Dananjaya banned for illegal bowling action

Sri Lanka off-spinner Akila Dananjaya was handed a 12 month ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for an illegal bowling action. The decision was taken after an independent assessment of his action. The 25-year-old was assessed after the legality of his bowling action came under question during the first Test against New Zealand in Galle in August. He subsequently underwent an independent assessment in Chennai on August 29, which revealed that he employed an illegal action.

Sri Lanka’s cricket board said it will go ahead with its tour of Pakistan despite fears that players could be the targets of terror attacks during the six-match series. Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Mohan de Silva said they received the all-clear from the defence ministry to leave for Pakistan on Tuesday.

Ghana star Asamoah Gyan joins ISL side NorthEast Utd

Star Ghana World Cupper and most capped player Asamoah Gyan has joined Indian Super League side NorthEast United FC for the upcoming season. The 33-year-old striker, who holds the Ghanaian record of most international appearances and goals, last played for Turkish club Kayserispo. A former captain, Gyan represented Ghana at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups. With six goals, he is the top African goal-scorer in the history of the World Cup.
