The estate office of the Municipal Corporation (MC) removed encroachments from several major roads in the city today. Estate staff removed encroached from congested streets of Gheo Mandi and Jallianwala Bagh. Vends and goods displayed outside shops were seized.

Estate Inspector Chandar Parkash warned shopkeepers to not encroach footpaths.

Besides, the staff removed and damaged the encroachments using a JCB machine from Ramtalai to Mehta Road Chowk. Officials warned tandoor makers to keep their tandoors inside to evade action. Tandoors and goods lying on roadsides were seized.

Acting on the directions of Mayor Karmajit Singh Rintu and MC Commissioner Harbir Singh, the estate wing also conducted an anti-encroachment drive at Ranjit Avenue, opposite to Red Cross and City Centre.

Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia said, “In the wake of festival season, we have intensified our anti-encroachment drive. No one will be exempted. People should cooperate with the MC to make roads free of encroachments.”
