A senior professor at the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendragarh, and a deputy civil surgeon have quit their jobs and joined politics ahead of the Assembly elections. Both want to contest the elections on the BJP ticket from different segments. They have even started lobbying for the same.

Prof Bir Singh Yadav (62), who was heading the department of English and foreign languages at the CUH, resigned on Monday on not getting the no-objection certificate from the university authorities for contesting the elections.

Yadav belongs to Pota village in Mahendragarh district and is interested in jumping into the poll fray from Ateli from where Deputy Speaker of Haryana Vidhan Sabha Santosh Yadav is the BJP MLA. Yadav is lobbying hard for getting the BJP ticket through Union Minister Rao Inderjit, who is stated to have political differences with Santosh.

Dr Rakesh Kumar, 49, has taken voluntary retirement to enter politics, keeping in view the short time left for the Assembly elections. He is seeking BJP ticket from Jhajjar (reserve) and has also started visiting villages to contact voters.

“I possess 40 years of teaching experience and have also been active on social platforms since a young age. I am fully confident of getting the ticket as honesty and clean image are the top priorities of the BJP,” said Yadav.

Dr Rakesh said he had decided to join politics by giving up his government job as politics was a bigger platform to serve people.
