Karnal, September 18
With the death of five more animals — two lactating buffaloes, two growing buffaloes and one calf — the death toll rose to 43 on Wednesday at the Livestock Research Centre of the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI).
Six buffaloes are still suffering from the mysterious disease and have been kept at an isolated place.
The increasing toll has heightened the worries of the scientists.
The scientists are still in a dilemma over the reasons of the death of the buffaloes as the symptoms of the disease are not matching with clinical science.
Earlier, the preliminary investigation by the scientists of the NDRI, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izzatnagar in Bareli, and LUVAS along with the post-mortem reports of the deceased animals had indicated that bacterial pathogen infection could be a reason behind the death.
