Students who have cleared Class XII biannual examination, the result of which was declared by J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE), are struggling to get admission in Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) affiliated to the Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) as well as University of Jammu (JU).The students claimed that despite having sufficient number of seats available, colleges were denying them admission.

“From approaching different student organisations to sending our parents to meet principals of various colleges as well as university authorities, students are trying their level best to secure admission, but in vain,” Rohit, a student, said.

“When the Class XII biannual result was declared by the school education board last week, it was informed that the admission process will continue for seven days. But to our surprise, when we reached the college, the officials told us that admission process was over,” he added.

“Despite the fact that there are number of seats vacant in new degree colleges, they are not admitting the students. The college administration is now saying that in order to get admission, we must get a nod from Vice-Chancellor of the university,” Arshad Ahmad, a parent, told The Tribune.

“Ever since declaration of result, every parent is going from pillar to post to get their wards admitted in order to save academic year, but nobody is ready to address our concerns,” he maintained.

“What to talk of constituent colleges of cluster university, even the new colleges are expressing inability to admit the students,” Sukhram Singh, another parent, said.

“It is not for the colleges to decide about admitting students who have cleared Class XII biannual exams. The decision is to be taken by the Higher Education Department. We can understand the concerns of both parents as well as students, but it is for the administration to take a call,” principal of a GDC said.
