Jalandhar: To mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, several activities are being done in various departments on the occasion of from September 20 to 27 by the Education Department.  In sports, several competitions have already taken place, including swimming and kabaddi championships at the district-level.  National Federation of the Blinds is also going to organise National Athletic games for visually impaired in November in Ludhiana. The members of the state federation had recently held a meeting in New Delhi with the National-level delegation. TNS

‘Provide hygienic food to pilgrims’

Jalandhar: Keeping in view of the celebrations of  550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, an awareness meeting of the Health Department and food business operators was held at Kapurthala under Tandrust Punjab mission.The celebrations are likely to be attended by a large number of devotees from across the globe. Civil Surgeon asked the present to ensure safe, hygienic and unadulterated food to the devotees. Dr Walia directed the food businessmen to prepare food stuff in a clean, covered and hygienic area. tns

Man crushed under truck 

Hoshiarpur: A young man returning home after admitting his father to a hospital was crushed under a truck loaded with sand on Saturday midnight. The truck driver fled the spot after leaving the vehicle near toll plaza on Chandigarh Road. The victim has been identified as Pritpal Singh, son of Daljit Singh, a resident of Manavta Nagar.  Inspector Gobinder Kumar said the police had registered a case against truck driver Jagmel Singh, a resident of Gobindgarh and had impounded the vehicle. After postmortem, Pratipal’s body was handed over to his kin. His wife and two children live in Canada. oc
