Police to keep watch on history-sheeters during Haryana poll

An inter-state police cooperation meeting, aimed at maintaining law and order during the forthcoming Assembly elections in Haryana, was held at Gymkhana Club, Sector 1, here today.

The objective of the meeting was to keep a vigil on unlawful activities, including illegal transportation of liquor and drugs and intensive patrolling at border areas.

The meeting was attended by DCP Kamaldeep Goyal, Chandigarh SP (Crime) Vineet Kumar, Mohali SP (Security) Raj Balwinder Singh, Baddi SP NK Sharma, DSP Sirmaur Paramdev Thakur, Solan DSP Ramesh Sharma and Mahabir Singh, SHO, PS Traffic City.

Preventive action against anti-social elements to ensure smooth functioning of the Assembly election was also discussed during the meeting. Activities of people out on bail and history-sheeters from all police stations will also be closely watched.

Police campaign on traffic rules ends

  • Panchkula: The three-day campaign launched by the Haryana Police to create awareness regarding new traffic rules among citizens ended here on Sunday. 
  • Senior officials of the district police department visited various public spots and residential areas to apprise people of the new Motor Vehicles Act. The officials distributed rose petals among those found violating the traffic rules. 
  • The Motor Vehicles Act, which introduced stricter penalties for traffic violators, has also attracted criticism from the general public over hefty penalities. 
  • Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kamaldeep Goyal told The Tribune that the campaign was successful. “Now, the violators will be challaned as per the new traffic rules,” he said.
  • Commissionerate of Panchkula tweeted: “Keeping in view the huge participation of Panchkula residents, we hope to see a downwards trend in traffic-related violation from Monday.”
