2,676 cases disposed of in city

CHANDIGARH: A total of 2,676 cases were disposed of by 14 Benches headed by judicial officers in the National Lok Adalat held at the District Courts in Sector 43 here today.

A total of 2,676 cases were disposed of by 14 Benches headed by judicial officers in the National Lok Adalat held at the District Courts in Sector 43 here today.

Paramjeet Singh, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, and Amarinder Sharma, Secretary, DLSA, visited the benches and pursued the cases for amicable settlement. The cases were taken up and disposed of with the consent of the parties.

As many as 893 cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act involving an amount of Rs 10,14,88,528; 19 motor accident claim cases involving an amount of Rs 1,14,35,000; 19 matrimonial/family disputes, 58 civil suits and rent cases involving an amount of Rs 3,48,95,873; 45 executions involving an amount of Rs 2,55,06,978; two criminal revisions, eight criminal miscellaneous; 19 civil miscellaneous involving an amount of Rs 27,01,737; 24 arbitration cases, four civil/rent appeals, five criminal appeals involving an amount of Rs 36,90,000; 22 cases under Section 125 of the CrPC; 13 cases of the DV Act; 27 untraced, two cases of the Guardian and Succession Act; and 13 criminal compoundable cases involving an amount of Rs 16,000 were disposed of.

At least 33 cases relating to the Registrar of Companies Act and Shop Act with a fine of Rs 4,66,000; 486 municipal matters with a fine of Rs 500; 984 traffic challans with a fine of Rs 3,97,450 and 65 cases involving an amount of Rs 59,11,993 were disposed of by the Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services). In addition to this, 38 pre-litigative cases involving an amount of Rs 41,26,244 were also settled.

Paramjeet Singh, District and Sessions Judge, thanked the general public for making this Lok Adalat a success. He appealed to people to resolve their disputes through lok adalats as these provide quick and economical justice.

31 labour dispute cases settled

As many as 31 labour dispute cases involving an amount of Rs 14,52,641 were disposed of in the National Lok Adalat held at the District Labour Court. The cases were settled with the efforts of Anshul Berry, Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-Presiding Officer, Labour Court. Of the total cases settled, eight were pending since 2016. The maximum amount was awarded in the case of Ram Kumar versus Golf Club, Chandigarh. Ram Kumar, who was an employee of the Golf Club, was sacked in 2018. He was awarded a compensation of Rs 6.10 lakh in lieu of reinstatement.
