Chandigarh, September 14
The enforcement wing of the local Municipal Corporation today issued challan to 77 street vendors over encroachments in the city.
Most of the violators were unregistered vendors. Registered vendors were challaned too for occupying more than 6’5” space allotted to them.
The anti-encroachment drive was carried out following a Punjab and Haryana High Court order to remove unregistered vendors from the market areas as well as from the roadsides.
On the direction of MC Commissioner KK Yadav, an enforcement team challaned vendors in Sectors 19, 20, 32, 45, 44, 35, 22 and 15 and other parts of the city. They evicted unregistered vendors and confiscated their merchandise and carts. —TNS
