India-Pak tie in end Nov, venue subject to review

The much-talked about India-Pakistan Davis Cup tie will take place either on November 29-30 or November 30-December 1, the International Tennis Federation has said.

The much-talked about India-Pakistan Davis Cup tie will take place either on November 29-30 or November 30-December 1, the International Tennis Federation has said. However, there will be a review of the security situation on November 4 to decide if the Asia/Oceania Group I tie can take place in Islamabad or it has to be shifted to a neutral venue. “They (ITF) have mailed us giving the dates today. They said the tie will take place subject to a clearance after the security review on November 4,”  All India Tennis Association secretary Hironmoy Chatterjee said.

Sarfaraz remains captain, Babar named his deputy

Babar Azam has been named Pakistan’s vice-captain for their upcoming home series against Sri Lanka while Sarfaraz Ahmed has been retained as captain of the side. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement that it had confirmed the appointments on the basis of recommendations made by Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq and the PCB Cricket Committee.

ICC ACU grills Mansoor over spot-fixing charges

An officer of International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit grilled former Pakistan Test batsman Mansoor Akhtar for over an hour here on Friday over his reported approach to Umar Akmal to spot-fix during the recent Canadian Global League. Steve Richardson made an unexpected appearance at the National Stadium on Friday where Mansoor Akhtar was called for questioning. Akhtar, who played 19 Tests and 41 ODIs for Pakistan, has been accused by Umar Akmal of approaching him during the CGL and making an offer to spot-fix during the tournament.

Srikanth out of China Open, Korea Open due to injury

Ace Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth on Friday pulled out of the upcoming tournaments in China and Korea, owing to a knee injury that flared up after the World Championship last month. The China Open World Tour Super 1000 is scheduled to be held at Changzhou from September 17 to 22, followed by Korea Open World Tour Super 500 (September 24 to 29) at Incheon City. “Tough times. Will not be playing in the upcoming China Open and Korea Open due to knee injury. Hope to recover quick and get back in action soon!” he wrote on his Twitter page.
