New Delhi, September 12

The Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) renamed the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium as Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in memory of the late politician. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new stadium in a function held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

At the same function, DDCA unveiled a new pavilion stand named after Indian skipper Virat Kohli. A short video and an animation film on Kohli’s progression from an U-19 player to India captain was also shown. “Never thought I would be honoured in such a grand scale,” said Kohli. “It was in 2001 (2000) during a match against Zimbabwe, my coach Rajkumar Sharma gave me two tickets. I remember clinging to the gallery grill asking for Javagal Srinath’s autograph. I was telling my brother how far we have come. So today to have a pavilion in my name at the same stadium is surreal,” he added. — TNS
