Anjum, Annu Raj win titles in National Shooting Trials

Anjum Moudgil won the women’s 50m rifle prone title in the National Shooting Trials (T6) here today. Tarun Yadav won the men’s 50m rifle prone event while Annu Raj Singh clinched the women’s 25m pistol gold. Anjum shot 619.4 in prone to edge out Tejaswini Sawant, who shot 618.9. In the men’s prone event, Delhi’s Tarun Yadav shot 623.9 to beat CISF’s Navdeep Singh Rathore (622.7). Sanjeev Rajput came third with 622.3.

Sharma starts with 2-under 70 at KLM Open 

Shubhankar Sharma shot a hat-trick of birdies on his second nine to card 2-under 70 in the first round of the KLM Open here on today. Gaganjeet Bhullar (72) was T-66th and SSP Chawrasia was even par after 13 holes. Meanwhile, Callum Shinkwin had taken the lead with 6-under 66 in the opening round.

Pakistan’s seasoned left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz today announced taking indefinite break from the longest format of the game, saying he will concentrate on One-day and T20 cricket for the time being. He said he will be concentrating on the shorter formats of the game and may return to red-ball cricket at a later date.

Pakistan’s new hockey head coach Khawaja Junaid is facing a revolt of sorts from some senior players and officials even as the national team prepares for two tough matches against the Netherlands next month in its bid to win a Tokyo Olympics berth. Goalkeeper Imran Butt refused to come out of retirement to join the training camp in Lahore, making it clear he will not work with Junaid. “To make matters worse, chief selector Manzoor Jr also conveyed his objection to the federation when Junaid decided to call up some senior players for the camp without consulting the selectors,” a source said.
