Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine system disorder in women of reproductive age and those diagnosed with the condition have a heightened risk of developing fertility problems, said Dr Kanchi Khurana, gynaecologist, Indira IVF Hospital.

“Adolescent PCOS is on the rise these days due to change in lifestyle, academic load and lack of physical exercise. Weight control is the key to preventing metabolic syndrome at a young age. Early diagnosis and treatment can help manage the symptoms and prevent long-term problems. PCOS also is a silent killer and has profound implications for a women’s reproductive health as well as her long-term risk of chronic illness like insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart disease.” said she. — TNS
