APS celebrates martyr’s birth anniv

Army Public School (APS), Rakhmuthi, celebrated the birth anniversary of late Major Devinderjit Singh Pannu. Major DS Pannu of the 5th Sikh Regiment had laid down his life in a key battle for the defence of Chhamb on December 5, 1971.

Army Public School (APS), Rakhmuthi, celebrated the birth anniversary of late Major Devinderjit Singh Pannu. Major DS Pannu of the 5th Sikh Regiment had laid down his life in a key battle for the defence of Chhamb on December 5, 1971. He was awarded the Vir Chakra (posthumously) for this act of gallantry. The special day was presided over by Col NJS Pannu (retd), martyr’s brother, and the Chairman of APS, Rakhmuthi. The programme commenced with the traditional candle lighting and garland ceremony. Col Pannu awarded scholarship of Rs 10,000 each to best students of Class XI in session 2018-19. The students were Nikhil Sharma, Niti Choudhary, Janvi Sharma and Riya Chib.

Rally on water conservation

The Jal Shakti Abhiyan Committee of Government Degree College (GDC), Jindrah, organised an awareness rally on water conservation under the Swachhta Pakhwada on Monday. About 200 students of the college participated in it. The rally was flagged off by Principal Prof Kalpana Kesar in presence of all staff members. The students along with members of the Jal Shakti Committee proceeded through market and streets of Jindrah carrying the Tricolour, placards and banners to make society aware of the gravity of the depleting water resources. The extension lectures on importance of water conservation, sustainable development were also delivered.  

Jammu boy is PU student council’s VP   

Rajat Puri, a student of DAV College, Chandigarh, has won the election for the post of vice-president of Punjab University Student Council by a huge margin of 428 votes. He secured 1,440 votes. Hailing from Poonch district of Jammu province, Rajat completed his early studies in Poonch and later shifted to Jammu for higher education. He is currently pursuing Bachelors degree from DAV College, Chandigarh. Rajat said he would work as a team with the other elected members and strive hard to facilitate a better environment within the campus. He said he would raise the genuine demands of student community from time to time.  

Students take part in sports contests  

Students of various schools are participating in district/state level sports competitions in multi-disciplines at different venues in Jammu. The competitions are being held for both indoor and outdoor sports/games organised by the Sports Department. The winner students will be considered for selection in the upcoming National School Games, 2019.
