Gurdaspur, September 9

Government offices, schools and colleges will remain closed in Gurdaspur on Tuesday as a mark of protest against MLA Simarjit Bains.

Gurdaspur ADC (General) passed a resolution to this effect.

The police had booked Lok Insaf Party (LIP) chief Bains under the IPC following the legislator’s altercation with Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal on Thursday.

Anger within the Punjab IAS Officers’ Association was discernible since a clip showing the MLA using abusive language against the DC went viral.

Bains on Monday moved the court of the Gurdaspur District and Sessions judge seeking a bail in the case registered against him by the Batala police on a complaint filed by SDM Balbir Raj Singh.

He had been booked by the Batala police under various Sections of the IPC after a verbal altercation with Gurdaspur DC Vipul Ujwal. An FIR was registered at the Batala city police station on Saturday.

Sources reveal that Bains moved his application through a lawyer. The judge has issued a notice to the state government and has fixed September 12 at the next date of hearing.
