Muktsar, September 8

In a bid to reward good work of anti-drug committees, there is a move to designate some panel members as special police officers (SPOs).

This was revealed by special task force (STF) chief Harpreet Singh Sidhu during a meeting recently, said Parveen Bansal, coordinator, anti-drug committees, Muktsar district.

Members of 15 anti-drug committees held a meeting at Gidderbaha on Sunday to discuss various problems being faced by them.

Bansal said, “Recently, I met the STF chief. We discussed the challenges before the anti-drug committees in villages.”

He added, “The STF chief has assured us that some members of anti-drug committees will be given the posts of SPOs for their good work.”

Reacting to the development, Ranjit Singh, member, anti-drug committee, Gurusar village, said, “If we are given the post of SPO, then we will be able to work more efficiently.”

Notably, the anti-drug committee members have caught nearly 30 people with contraband and drug money in the past about two months in the district. Committee members have also been honoured by the district administration for their good work.
