Mohali, September 7

Having secured an Olympics quota place for India in the women’s 10m air rifle competition, Anjum Moudgil says being consistent in the run-up to the 2020 Tokyo Games will be the key to a good show.

“It’s an Olympic year, and yes, there are some nerves. Because of the recent performance, the expectation levels are high. The only aim from now on will be to remain consistent,” Anjum said on the sidelines of a seminar to mark World Physiotherapy Day at Mayo Hospital here today.

The 25-year-old is also among the 14 Indian shooters to have earned a ticket to the World Cup Finals in Putian, China.

“It’s a pleasant time but yes, the competition is getting tougher. People, however, should take it as a positive as it pushes one to do well. I think we all have become more fearless and more intact as a team,” said Anjum, who was recently presented with the Arjuna Award.

Anjum also expressed her disappointment at the exclusion of shooting sport from the 2022 Commonwealth Games. “Obviously, we all are disappointed. But other sports shouldn’t get affected because of it,” she said. — TNS
