Youngsters working under the Baba Deep Singh Sewa Dal and Welfare Society Garhdiwala have become saviours for those suffering in the flooded areas. It has been 14 days since these youngsters started working for the affected people at Lohian here. Besides, they have decided that they would remain here for one more month till the situation becomes normal in these areas.

The ‘heroes’, as they are addressed by villagers, have been extending every help to villagers. Manjot Singh (31), who started the society around four years ago, said they had got two boats to help evacuate those stuck in their homes. “After that, we bought a boat worth Rs 3 lakh as we wanted to speed up the process,” he said.

Besides plugging the bundh, the members are making sure that every needy person is provided with food and water. The society has now started a survey to check what problems the villagers have been facing. Notably, surveys are being done by government departments, but members of the society are talking to people to get to know about their ordeal.

They have also made a list of the victims who have lost their houses, fields, and everything so that help is given to them accordingly.

The society has made plans for future too. “We have seen and interacted with people here and have got to know that farmers have suffered huge losses. So, we have decided to provide them with everything they would need like seeds, fertilisers, etc,” said 25-year-old Jaspal Singh.

The members said their teams had been sent to various directions for having an interaction with villagers. “We are monitoring the situation. We are trying to know about the needs of these people so that we can prepare ourselves accordingly,” the members added.

Though unknown to them, these flood warriors have emerged as the real heroes for the villagers in their difficult times.
