Man arrested for snatching

Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested a person in a snatching case. According to the police, complainant Chander Shekhar, a resident of Sector 29, reported that Sudhir and his accomplices had snatched his gold chain, an iPhone and a purse containing Rs 600 and a debit card from him on August 12 near the Railway Bridge, Industrial Area, Phase 1, here.

On August 24, the complainant identified Sudhir at a park in Sector 46. He informed the police following which the suspect was arrested. A case has been registered. TNS

Four held with heroin, ganja

Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested four persons while possessing heroin and ganja. According to the police, complainant Virender, a resident of Jind distinct, Haryana, was arrested from Sector 24 while possessing 12 grams of heroin. In another incident, the Operation Cell of the UT police arrested Aarish, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, while possessing 10 grams of heroin. The suspect was arrested from near the Police Lines in Sector 26. Ravi Kumar, a resident of Burail village, was arrested from the road separating Sector 45-C and D while possessing 40 grams of heroin. In yet another case, Rakesh, a resident of Panchkula district, was nabbed from near the Sports Complex, Sector 38 (West), with 1.250-kg ganja. Cases have been registered. TNS

Mourning over Jaitley’s death

Chandigarh:The Chandigarh Administration has declared one-day state mourning tomorrow as a mark of respect to former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who died at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Saturday. The officials of the administration said the National Flag would fly at half mast at government buildings during this period. No official entertainment will be held during the state mourning period. PO arrested for fraud

Mohali: Sleuths of Mohali crime branch arrested a person, who is said to have duped three partners of their private company of Rs 80 lakh. According to police, the accused has been identified as Arun Bhardwaj, a resident of Gurugram. The police arrested Bhardwaj, who was declared as proclaimed offender in 2017, from Jalandhar two days ago. The complainant in the case is Arwinder Singh, who was one of the partners of the company and former CEO of an IPL team. The police said the firm was floated by a private hospital a few years ago. "After some time of formation of the company an embezzlement of Rs 80 lakh from the company's bank accounts was detected following which the local police was approached. A case was registered against Bhardwaj under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468 and 471 of IPC in 2014, said the police.  TNS

Chandigarh: Prof Rajinder Jindal, Department of Zoology, Panjab University, has been awarded the Research Peace Award as for research in limnology, environmental biology and fish toxicology by the International Journal for Research under Literal Access (RULA), in association with World Research Council & United Medical Council, during a ceremony held on August 15 at a hotel in Tamil Nadu.
