A group of people from different walks of life prepared and adopted a public manifesto in Jind today in view of upcoming elections.

Social activists, professionals, educationists, bureaucrats, ex-servicemen and representatives of social movements were among those who attended the meeting on a platform named Jan Sanwad.

The participants said the issues of livelihood and social security were being kept on the back burner while divisive and emotive issues were being played up.

Among those who were present were co-convener of Dalit Adhikar Manch Sohan Das, women leader Jagmati Sangwan, kisan leader Jagroop Singh, employees’ leader R Chaudhry Jagga, student leader Suman Gharwal and social activist Karam Bir Singh. Inderjit Singh and Balbir Malik of the Save Education Movement said meetings had been conducted in 12 districts to prepare a draft of the public manifesto.

The document focused on issues of education, health, employment, social justice and other crucial areas of public life while advocating equal and quality education for all and opposed privatisation of public sector subjects.

The organisers said the public manifesto would be handed over to various parties. A coordination committee was constituted to publish and spread information about the manifesto.
