Lives of residents of Shalimar Enclave in Dhakoli and commuters, who pass through the Sabzi Mandi here, have turned miserable due to dumping of waste collected from nearby colonies.

To make the matter worse, passers-by can be seen answering the nature’s call at this spot. Moreover, the smoke emanating from the burnt garbage leads to air pollution.

The residents said garbage was being dumped at an open plot adjacent to a residential area. “Stench emanating from the garbage is unbearable. It has become difficult to live here. Educated and well-off people come in their cars and dump trash here,” said a resident area.

“We have requested the Zirakpur Municipal Council several times to shift the garbage dump to some other place, but in vain,” said Kulbhushan Sharma, president, Unified Residents Welfare Association. “Garbage also attracts stray animals. Due to which, they can be seen roaming around on the road,” he said.
