In a freak accident, Ishaan Sharma, a student of Panjab University, who was pursuing his internship at the university’s Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, died on Saturday night. Ishaan was a former SFPU leader, who had recently joined hands with the SOI for the upcoming PUCSC elections. Rajeev Kumar, SHO at the Sector 11 police station, said Ishaan was under the influence of liquor. A complaint under Section 174 of the CRPC has been registered.

“He was walking towards the South Campus of the university. He was drunk and was not in a condition to walk. Two of his friends went after him and asked him to return, but he refused. He started punching a flex board where his hand got stuck. Struggling to pull it out with force, he fell back on his head. Ishaan was shifted to the GMSH-16 where doctors declared him brought dead,” he said.

“His post-mortem examination has been conducted. We are waiting for the reports,” he said.

Divulging more details on the incident, Prof Jagat Bhushan, newly appointed Dean Student Welfare and Principal of the Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, said: “It is unfortunate that such incident happened at the university.
