Administration to assess damage caused by floods

LUDHIANA: The district administration will assess the damage caused by floods to the life and property and furnish a detailed report in this regard daily to the Chief Minister’s Office. Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said this in a press release issued here on Sunday. He said revenue officers have also been directed to execute special girdawari.

The district administration will assess the damage caused by floods to the life and property and furnish a detailed report in this regard daily to the Chief Minister’s Office. Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said this in a press release issued here on Sunday. He said revenue officers have also been directed to execute special girdawari.

The report of the damage to the life and property and the details of activities being executed for relief and rehabilitation would be furnished to the CM’s Office daily on the template circulated by the CMO to all districts. He said complying to the CMO’s instructions, he had issued orders to SDMs concerned, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, Civil Surgeon, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller, Superintending Engineer, PWD and Drainage Department to collect the data and send it immediately to the DC office.

The DC said: “The CMO has issued instructions for sending the data pertaining to affected villages, damaged houses, loss to life and property, including livestock, diseases breakout, rehabilitation work done, breaches that occurred in bridges and embankments of rivers and the present situation. This data is required to distribute relief material and grant to the affected citizens without any delay. Officers have been instructed to send a report daily either on email drabranch115@yahoo.com or on WhatsApp number 9417100786.”

Truck carrying relief material dispatched 

The district administration dispatched a truck loaded with relief material to the most affected districts of Jalandhar and Kapurthala. The trucks were flagged off to the destinations by Dr Poonam Preet Kaur, Assistant Commissioner (Grievances), from Guru Nanak Dev Stadium. 

The DC said the task to take the relief material to the destinations had been entrusted upon the Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars. He said earlier the Ludhiana district administration had sent clothes and other relief material to flood-affected persons of Ropar district. 

Surveillance on at Bridge near Bholewal Kadeem

The work to strengthen the bridge near Bholewal Kadeem will continue and it will be kept under surveillance round-the-clock, said Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal.  He said: “For the security and surveillance of the bridge, a roster of senior officers under the leadership of Amarinder Singh Malli, SDM, Ludhiana (West) and Rupinder Pal Singh, Superintending Engineer, Drainage Department, has been made and the officers have been put on duty with immediate effect.” The DC, in a communiqué, said he got the information of breach in Bholewal Kadeem on August 19 and immediately started the work for plugging it with the help of technocrats. He said this breach was 170-feet wide and 45-feet deep. He lauded the efforts of senior officers of the district administration, local residents and other social organisations that worked in tandem to plug this breach. “Though there is no fear now, the district administration is not taking any chance and the bridge will be kept under 24x7 surveillance and the senior officers have been pressed to service to keep a close tab on the bridge,” said Agrawal. Ahlowal, Shani Gawon, Nawan Khaira villages were the most affected by floods. “A 70-feet wide breach was anticipated near Ghari Fazal village, but the disaster was averted due to the timely intervention,” he said.  — TNS
