Mistaken for child lifter, man thrashed

LUDHIANA: A man, who was dressed as female, was beaten by people after they mistook him for a child thief during the Janamashtami celebrations at SBS Nagar yesterday.

A man, who was dressed as female, was beaten by people after they mistook him for a child thief during the Janamashtami celebrations at SBS Nagar yesterday.

When the person took a child in his lap, people cornered him considering that he was a child lifter. They thrashed him and later called the policemen on duty there. When he was questioned, it turned out that he was a male.

Sources said two persons, who were accompanying the suspect, fled the spot.

In charge of SBS Nagar police post Sunil Kumar said no complaint of child lifting was lodged with the police. Dugri SHO Bittan Kumar said people told the police that they mistook the person dressed as female for a thief.
