Bathinda: A suspect, who was arrested along with 30 gm of heroin at Dyalpura Bhaika, tried to escape from police custody while he was presented before the Phul court on Friday. As per information, he accused tried to flee from the court by breaking a glass door, but the police followed him and nabbed him near the Court Complex. After which he was presented before the court and was sent to police remand. The Phul police have registered another case against the drug peddler. ASI Dharam Singh said: "On August 22, SI Karamjit Singh had arrested the suspect, Sandeep Singh, with 30 gm of heroin from the Bhagta Bhaika area in the district. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against him and on Friday and he was taken to the Phul court, but when they entered inside the court complex without handcuffs, the suspect tried to escape by breaking the glass door of the court. But acting swiftly, police officials nabbed him. TNS
Auto driver commits suicide
Bathinda: An auto-rickshaw driver committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near Santpura Road. The victim was allegedly addicted to cannabis. The deceased has been identified as Panchu Chopal, who was originally a native of Bihar. Residents spotted his body hanging with a tree. Members of Sahara Jan Sewa Society reached the spot and informed the Kotwali Police. The victim was unmarried and used to drive a rickshaw. He was staying with his brother. After an investigation, the police sent the body for postmortem to the Civil Hospital. TNS
Extension of last date sought
Faridkot: The Department of Medical Education and Research has approached the MCI to extend the last date for admissions to MBBS courses in eight medical colleges in the state as completing four-round counselling for admissions is reportedly not possible before August 31. The admission process for over 2,000 MBBS and BDS seats continues to hang in balance.
