Chandigarh, August 23

A local court granted bail to Assistant Sub-Inspector Govinder Singh, who was arrested for losing his 9mm service revolver at a tea stall near the Regional Passport Office in Industrial Area Phase-1 on Monday. At present, the Assistant Sub-Inspector is posted at CIA, Bathinda.

Govinder was arrested under the charges of theft and criminal breach of trust. The alleged theft took place when the Assistant Sub-Inspector along with his wife Manjeet Kaur came to a passport office to apply for their passports. Before entering the passport office, the ASI allegedly placed his service revolver in a bag and kept it at a tea stall run by Tilak Raj.

The police have found several loopholes in Govinder’s statement as he was on a duty in Bathinda and came to Chandigarh for his personal work. — TNS
