Three people, natives of Ropar in Punjab, suspected to be ‘child lifters’ were assaulted by an agitated mob at Chail Chowk in Mandi district on Friday. The victims were stated to be working as impersonators to earn their livelihood.

An FIR was registered at Karsog area in Mandi district recently, where one woman claimed that a few people dressed as ascetics (sadhu) had tried to kidnap her daughter but she showed courage and locked her inside the house.

Today, when the three victims entered the Chail Chowk area, the agitated mob detained and assaulted them mercilessly, until the police intervened. The police rescued the victims and released them after an enquiry. The victims were sentb back after a thorough investigation. — OC
