NURPUR, AUGUST 21

Resentment is brewing among residents of the town here for receiving the inflated water bills after nine months. The Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Department supplies water to consumers.

The bills were issued from November 2018 to July this year with the revised tariff of Rs 150.85 per month for four months from April to July months and Rs 137.14 per month for five months from November 2018 to March 2019.

Earlier, the department used to issue water bills for three months. Pradeep Sharma, Joginder Mehra, Suman Gupta, Umesh Kumar and Praveen Singh, residents, have demanded bi-monthly water bills, like that of electricity. They also demanded to revoke the notification of the department issued during the previous Virbhadra government for enhancing 10 per cent water tariff rate with each passing year.

According to officials of the department, the bills could not be issued due to staff shortage.
