Bathinda, August 21

Demanding registration of a rape case against the suspect in an alleged case of sexual abuse, members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Lakhowal, gheraoed the DSP office in Talwandi Sabo on Wednesday.

They also raised slogans against the police, including the DSP. The protesters said the police were ignoring their demand for registration of a rape case against the suspect. They said they had to step in support of the victim due to inaction by cops.

Addressing the protesters, BKU Lakhowal vice-president Ramkaran Singh Rama said a girl from Rama Mandi had been exploited by a person in collusion with his family members. He said the suspect also made an objectionable video and threatened to make it viral. He said the suspect abused and blackmailed her.

He added that the police had registered a case against the suspect for making the video viral, but they were running away for adding the section of rape to the FIR.

Other farmer leaders Surmukh Singh Salebrah, Dara Singh Maiserkhana, Mukhtair Singh and Sarup Singh threatened to launch a massive stir if the police failed to add the section of rape to the FIR.
