The Court of Additional Sessions Judge KS Sullar has convicted Austin, hailing from Nigeria, in a heroin smuggling case. At present, he was a resident of New Delhi.
He was ordered to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on the convict.
A case was registered against him at the Dakha police station on May 17, 2017, under Section 21 of the NDPS Act.
According to prosecution, the convict was already in the custody in another case. During interrogation, he revealed that he was doing the business of smuggling drugs in India.
A few days ago, he, along with one Sandi, came from Delhi to sell heroin. After selling the same, Austin was left with 1-kg heroin as some of his customers had not met him.
So, he concealed the heroin near the Baddowal Police Lines. Later, he was taken to the place from where the heroin was recovered.
However, during trial the accused pleaded innocence. After appreciating the evidence on record and convinced with the submissions of additional public prosecutor ML Bathla, the court found him guilty.
Rs 1 lakh fine on convict
A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on the convict, Austin. A case was registered against him at the Dakha police station on May 17, 2017, under Section 21 of the NDPS Act.
