In Gurugram, 232 challans issued for traffic violations

Of all traffic violations, jumping red lights is emerging as the major area of concern for the Gurugram police.

In a special 15-hour drive, the traffic police challaned 232 people and impounded 22 vehicles. The police have identified key junctions in the city, where the problem is common.

According to the traffic police, for the past several days, their twitter handle was flooded with the complaints of people jumping red lights and some accidents were also reported. The drive was organised following these complaints. During the drive, 37 traffic points were covered by the traffic police, in which 26 red light jumpers (13 each) were challaned by the police from Vatika Chowk red light and Artemis red light. In addition, 60 red light jumpers (10 each) were challaned at Hotel Bristol Chowk red light, Bakhtawar Chowk red light, SS Plaza red light, Ghata Chowk red light, CRPF Chowk red light and Sethi Chowk red light, respectively. Two to nine red light jumpers were challaned at other points.

In addition, 22 vehicles were impounded by the police as owners not only jumped red lights, but also failed to show the documents of the vehicles. While five vehicles were impounded from Mother Pride Chowk red light, four were impounded from Artemis red light and nine from other red lights.

A senior traffic police officer said the drive would continue. “We are working on a dedicated plan to curtail the menace. As of now, vigilance has been stepped up at places identified as sensitive,” the official said.
